Experiment in Heart Transplants by Language

English –> Hindi –> French –> Italian –> English
(late edit: added Irish)

If you will listen to the beat of my heart and touch my soul in a word, then I will tell you everything.

यदि आप मेरे दिल की धड़कन सुनेंगे और मेरी आत्मा को एक शब्द में छू लेंगे, तो मैं आपको सब कुछ बताऊंगा।
If you will hear the heartbeat of my heart and touch my soul in a word, then I will tell you everything.

Si vous entendez le battement de mon cœur et touchez mon âme en un mot, je vous raconterai tout.
If you hear the beating of my heart and touch my soul in a word, I will tell you everything.

Se senti il battito del mio cuore e tocchi la mia anima in una parola, ti dirò tutto.
If you feel my heart beating and touch my soul in one word, I’ll tell you everything.

Hmm, this gives a clue to what is unclear. When I said “beat” I was thinking about music. So that’s an element that needs to be added if this is all going to be transformed into a poem. I don’t know if it’s worth expanding on.

P.S. I went back to the original English and tried Irish. Interesting:

Má tá tú ag éisteacht le buille mo chroí agus ag teagmháil le m’anam i bhfocal, ansin inseoidh mé gach rud duit.
If you are listening to the beat of my heart and touching my soul in a word, then I will tell you everything.

  1. I think “listen” has more to do with understanding than does “hear” which is just receiving the sound without necessarily knowing its meaning.
